Student teams will be responsible for submitting a non-scored design paper with focus on safety elements of their vehicle attending the 2021 Validation Event. The report will serve as record of the design and as an informational document to show how the vehicle adheres to the rules. This submission will be reviewed by key volunteers to ensure the vehicle in attendance still meets requirements of rule and track operations. This submission will be required to remain eligible for participation in the Validation Event. The due date of this document will be 1 month prior to the Validation Event. Teams will see this document submission added to their Validation Event on www.saesupermileage.com.
Because the design paper student teams will be submitting as part of the Knowledge Design Event will have a different focus and design concept for a proposed vehicle, submission of the same paper will be considered as not submitted.
For teams planning to participate in the Validation Event, SAE has also published online under Series Resources a document titled '2021 SAE Supermileage Validation Event Contingency Plan' which will help provide some current insight as we continue to plan hosting an on-site portion of the competition.
